Opening Day Streamers
With games technically starting today, I thought it would be fun to look ahead at the real opening day in terms of streaming. Before we go through our very few options I would like to discuss the upcoming fantasy season.
There will be two things going on in this substack.
I will be making streaming picks weekly. This season I want to enjoy my weekends with my family (zero FAAB leagues for this reason) so I will likely post them every Thursday or Friday. It will be a layout of my picks and options as well as my backup options in case a pitcher is moved. It will have a good amount of information and will be fun for me to do at my leisure just once a week.
A lot of people have asked me about the SP Streamer Chart. That was by far the most time-consuming thing to do but last year I had some help and someone automated the chart for me. They graciously said they would do it for free for me this season. I input the formula and he just runs it to update so…again…super easy for me. That likely won’t start until a couple of weeks in once we have actual information. I will preface, this isn’t 1000% because if he decides not to I will not be doing it. The chart is amazing and probably the best thing I have ever done but it’s just too much for me, unfortunately.
Now on for some fun!
Our options:
Miles Mikolas at LAD
4.81 SIERA with an 11.4 K-BB% in 2023
Facing the Dodgers (yay)
Do you want to start the season with a 9.00 ERA?
Frankie Montas vs WSH
Basically missed all of 2023 due to a shoulder injury
Splitter heavy pitcher who can be filthy when he is feeling the pitch
Terrible ballpark
Has to shake off some rust
Jose Quintana vs MIL
As a Mets fan, I am ashamed
Ashamed I tell you
Brewers have a sneaky offense and I expect a whole lot of mediocrity (like Kurland’s life in general) from this start
Alex Wood vs CLE
Wood seems to have lost his way and is a couple of years from his solid season with SF
Guardians have some annoying slap hitters at the top and Wood won’t be making them miss
Josiah Gray at CIN
Always has an intriguing upside
Terrible ballpark
Tough opponent
Kyle Freeland at ARI
Freeland will likely be usable at times but not here
The Diamondbacks offense will be top of the league this season, hold me to it
Garrett Crochet vs DET
Fastball/slider combination can be lethal
Terrible offense behind him
He has never pitched more than three innings in a game
Patrick Sandoval at BAL
Tough matchup
If the breaking balls are going he could get by
Too much risk IMO
In order of who I would start based on matchups etc.
Jose Quintana
Frankie Montas
Patrick Sandoval
Alex Wood
Garrett Crochet
Josiah Gray
Kyle Freeland
Mile Mikolas
